KOA KEIKI (Ages 8 - 11)

Koa Keiki is our 11 and under co-ed program that’s focused on allowing boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 11 to explore volleyball. The emphasis is on getting kids excited about the game while introducing them to movement, basic skills, and gameplay.

We also consider Koa Keiki our pipeline. Although kids at this age are just exploring the sport, we’re committed to building relationships and identifying families that express long-term interest in volleyball. Our long-term vision is to utilize the Koa Keiki program exclusively to create our travel teams that begin at 12 years of age.

OPEN GYMS

WHAT IS OPEN GYM?
Open gym is exactly what it sounds like. We provide a gym, some coaches to facilitate the process, equipment, and a safe environment so that kids from across the island can come in and just play the game they love.

We do provide some structure and guidance, but it’s mostly aimed at making sure we provide a safe environment. (SAFETY is our number one concern.) The coaches will start off with a quick warm-up and then they progress into variations of gameplay (3 on 3, 4 on 4, cross-court pepper, 5 on 5 no middles, and/or 6 on 6). Again, our goal is to provide a safe environment and to let the kids play.

WHO CAN ATTEND OPEN GYM?
ANYONE that meets the age and gender requirement. It doesn’t matter what school you attend, if you’re homeschooled, what club you play for, or who your coaches are…just come to play.

WHY DO YOU GUYS HOST OPEN GYMS?
We started hosting open gyms because we wanted to provide kids with an opportunity to just come together and play. No coaches in their ear. No fear of consequences if they don’t perform a technique correctly. No trying to compete for a position or earn play time. Just kids in a gym playing a game they love and having fun!

There were some other motives as well. We thought open gyms might provide a unique opportunity for kids from around the island to play with/against each other. Kids they may never get a chance to play with otherwise. (How often do kids from the OIA get to play with kids from the ILH and vice versa? Kamehameha with Farrington? Or Kahuku with Maryknoll? Or Punahou with McKinley? Etcetera Etcetera.)

We also thought it had the potential to help foster relationships amongst the athletes and parents, which might have the side benefit of building a stronger volleyball community. That can only be a good thing.

FEE
$20 in advance (pre-register and pay online)
$25 for walk-ups (register and pay at the door)
